Welcome, my name is Sara, and I am a 19-year-old freelance photographer located in Wyoming. I have been dabbling in photography for seven years, but considering that I started at age 12 the early years probably don't count. I started out with a 35mm camera given to me on my birthday, and after much trial and error since, I think I stumble upon some decent shots every now and again. I still consider myself to be an amateur.

The Camera

The pictures in this gallery were all taken with a Casio QV-R51 camera. It is a 5.0 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom and two inch LCD screen. I am definitely looking into getting a new camera someday, but for the time being this one has excellent quality for my ever-shrinking college bank account.

The PhotoloGallery

Pics on Rye was a name I came up with after getting sick of the title "Sar Chasm." At first I chose 600x480, then quickly started to dislike it. Pics on Rye is more random, and feels more original and fun to me. My gallery is intended to be a fun place and my captions tend to be sarcastic, so I think it fits well. Since I update chronologically, I often call the gallery a photolog. However, it is also a place where I house my favorites, making it offically a "photologallery." This is where I express myself visually, and fish for comments and improvement from viewers.

Ethics

I have a thing when it comes to photography, which is that if I cannot capture a color or a moment well enough with the camera alone, I refuse to use graphic programs to correct it. All of my photos are unedited, pure, unphotoshopped, unpaintshopped, and pristine. I do crop photos occassionally, although I try to avoid it and always point it out in the caption. Why do I do this? Mainly because I have come across many internet galleries with photos so incredible that I have to drool and become consumed with jealousy. Half the time I believe these photos have been tampered with, and are then no longer photography, but graphic design. Admirable as graphic design is, this is not a design gallery, it is a photography gallery, so I want people to know how my skills are as a photographer.

The only editing I do to my photos, is, of course, to resize them small enough for normal viewing, and to watermark them. All of the photos in the gallery are watermarked because I wish to claim them as my own.
